How-To Print

The printer is usable via the accompanying print server via SSH.

To print a document, follow these steps:

  1. Choose a label roll and load it into the printer.
  2. Ensure the printer is powered on.
  3. Create a document, which works for the label roll you chose.
    • So for the DK-11208 roll with 38x90mm labels, you need to have a document, which is 38x90mm and for the DK-22205 62mm continuous roll, you should be able to use documents of arbitrary length, as long as they are 62mm wide.
    • For the DK-11208 (38x90mm) roll and the DK-22205 (62mm continuous) roll, there are document templates available in the label-templates repository.
    • For the item-labels / DK-11208 / 38x90mm labels: Also see note_regarding_item-labels_dk-11208_38x90mm_labels.
  4. Send the document to the printer server via SSH to get it printed: cat document.pdf | ssh print@ptouch-print-server.z9.ccchh.net <MediaType> <PageSize>
    • Examples:
      • For the DK-11208 (38x90mm) roll: cat document.pdf | ssh print@ptouch-print-server.z9.ccchh.net labels 38x90mm
      • For the DK-22205 (62mm continuous) roll: cat document.pdf | ssh print@ptouch-print-server.z9.ccchh.net tape Custom.62xHEIGHT (where HEIGHT is the length of the document)
    • The full list of options for MediaType and PageSize can be found in the comment at the top of the wrapper script providing these options, which can be found here.
  5. Note Regarding item-labels / DK-11208 / 38x90mm labels: At this point make sure you follow step two of the extra steps noted here.
  6. Cut off the label using the built-in cutter.

This should work.™
If it doesn't, double check you have the correct document size, try a different size for the continous labels or try to print without images.

If the led blinks rapidly, press the feed button once to make it stop (reset?).

Note Regarding item-labels / DK-11208 / 38x90mm labels

The printer (driver?) handles these labels incorrectly resulting in it printing too late and starting too close to the left edge of the roll.
Working around this issue is a two step process:

  1. The document sent to the printer server needs to account for this. The item-label template from the label-templates repository does. Also see the extended explanation of the workaround.
  2. After the label got printed (and assuming the document sent to the printer had the correct margins set up,) one needs to press the feed button on the printer once, so that the printer moves the document up again and one can cut the label off cleanly without cutting into the next one.
